I think the movie was a good adaption of the book, as good as could have been expected. I have to admit the book was tough for me to get through, I'm not squeamish about killing but I am a little squeamish about pain, and the way it was painstakingly described how those women were tortured in the novel really affected me. I agree with the posters who said that part of Bateman's nuance were his obsessive lists about bad '80s music and '80s fashion, and it's impossible to capture that on film unless you have a constant voice over. The Whitney Houston diatribes make Bateman who he is. I think Christian Bale was a good representation of what I imagined Bateman to be like.

I have to disagree with the poster who said that Rules of Attraction was a good adaptation on film. I thought RoA the movie was a huge disappointment. RoA is actually my favorite BEE novel so I was psyched for the movie adaptation, and the movie didn't capture any of the novel's plot, humor, or culture references in my opinion. That being said, I actually love both Less Than Zero the novel and the movie, even if they are two different entities. If LTZ was faithfully adapted from the novel, it would've just been like Linklater's Slacker, only Slacker 2: Los Angeles. LTZ the movie is one of my favorite movies, even if it is very loosely based on the novel.

I loved the obsessive disecting of pop music icons of the 80's. In fact, it made me go out and buy Genesis: Genesis on vinyl and I don't regret it for one minute. Don't you think I haven't picked up Whitney Houston's debut but I still couldn't imagine buying Huey Lewis Sports News because that shit was bad the first time around. I thought this part of the book versus movie was amazingly well adapted and made me laugh my ass off.

I just finally finished the book after about 2 months of trying to do so. It took me a very long time for a few reasons one that I am pretty dang busy these days but it was definitely hard to finish the last 100 pages when Bateman completely loses it. The gore got really gnarly and I had a hard time getting through it. For the record, I don't consider myself a squeamish type.

I loved the movie and have seen it a number of times, I don't see it as a slasher but more of a comedy. BEE nails the gluttonous/obsessive 1980's manhattan and the movie depicts it it in some excellent ways.
